The disaster relief is to support communities impacted by opioid use, addiction, and overdose.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced the third incremental award, of over $2.8 million, for disaster-relief employment and training services in Ohio. The funding is intended to support communities impacted by health and economic effects of the opioid crisis.
The department stated, “Funds will also be used to employ people as peer recovery coaches; hospital support staff needed to address increases in drug-related admissions and babies born addicted; and as social service aides to assist children now in foster care due to their parents’ substance use disorders.“
The funding is provided under the national public health emergency that was declared by the Department of Health and Human Services in October 2017.
